A few years ago, I wrote a short story about an author who keeps trying (and failing) to write a novel about a young boy. With each attempt, the author tries out a different plot but hits a creative dead-end halfway through. But he keeps at it until one night the boy appears in the author's real world and demands resolution. He's tired of being thrown into all these problems without ever enjoying the chance to get out of them.
In the I-Wish-I'd-Thought-of-That Category, Will Ferrell, Dustin Hoffman, and Emma Thompson are staring in the new release: Stranger than Fiction. In the movie, an author gets writer's block and can't figure out how to kill off her main character. Unfortunately for the main character, he's a real life guy who hears the author's voice narrating his life, and also, who would rather not be killed off, thank you very much.
Here's the trailer. It looks funny...
